Genzaburo Ishikawa

One of 18 of the first members to play the first game of basketball on December 21, 1891 at the International YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts (USA). He left behind a sketch of the first-ever game as a record of the event.
Naruse, Jinzo
(1857-1919)

The first individual to introduce women's basketball in Japan. He reached 'The Game of Basketball' from 1894, and Coached Japanese-style basketball at Japan Women's University from 1901.
Brown, Franklin Hartwell
(1882-1973)

He greatly contributed to the growth of basketball while based in Japan's YMCA. The game of basketball was introduced prior to Brown's appearance in Japan, but he contributed to the growth at a national level.
Yoshii, Shiro
(1919-1992)
Category:Extraordinary Contributor to Basketball
He was appointed as Coach of the Japan National Basketball Team for the 18th Olympiad, which was hosted in Tokyo in 1964. He is also credited for helping to elevate a struggling Japan National Team's ranking from 15th place to 10th place in the 17th Olympic Games in 1960 (Rome).
